Mountain Stream

Artwork Description
Sketched while sitting on the massive boulders lining an ephemeral mountain stream at the Koai'a Tree Sanctuary on the north side of the Big Island of Hawai'i. This trail is highly sensitive to invasive species and requires shoes to be cleaned with a spray solution and scrubber brushes before entering. Next to a cow pasture on the slopes of an old cinder cone, vegetation around this area includes cactus, wild parsley and ginger, and morning glory vines. I flew the little sketch back home with me and painted over it in Austin.
